Rachel Owen, Licensed Massage Therapist
I grew up in a household strongly influenced by western medicine. My dad was a doctor and my mom was trained as an RN. In high school I took my first yoga class and I was hooked. I quickly developed an interest in healing systems that complemented the Western approach. I trained as a yoga teacher, and then as a Reiki therapist, and in 1986 I became a licensed massage therapist.
Prior to having children I taught group and private yoga in both studio and corporate settings, and had a massage practice in Northwest Portland. I then took a ten year hiatus after having three children in two years (there were twins!) My experiences as a mother sparked an interest in pregnancy massage, so I added to my repertoire prenatal and postpartum massage and became a "Birthing From Within" mentor.
My current massage space "The Nest" in the Goose Hollow neighborhood of Southwest Portland, is a refuge from the stress of day-to-day life. Inside an historic building blocks from the Multnomah Athletic Club, clients release their tension and find healing.
I enjoy working with people throughout all stages of life. Milestones and transitions create stress, and I am here to support clients with massage throughout any ups and downs they are navigating.
